Explore the Queen City of the South- Cebu



One of the livable cities in the country, Cebu is a metropolis that is not as crowded and polluted as Metro Manila.

If you want to have an escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy city, Cebu is the best place to be. The province is popular for its beautiful islands, white sand beaches, luxury resorts, scuba dive sites and historical spots. There are long list activities you can do in the province but before heading to any place, it would be better to explore Cebu City first. Check out the following places to visit and things you can do in the Queen City of the South.

                                                                           Fort San Pedro


If you want to have a glimpse of Cebu’s rich history, make sure to visit Fort San Pedro or Fuerza de San Pedro. You can find it in Plaza Independecia in the pier area of Cebu City. You can enjoy a tour inside the fort and travel back in time to the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines for only P30 pesos, which will serve as your entrance fee. Inside the Fort, you can have a view of the fort houses well-preserved Spanish artifacts, such as paintings, documents and sculptures depicting the Spanish settlement in the Philippines.

                                                                     Basilica del Santo Niño


After visiting Fort San Pedro, you can take a quick walk and reach the Minor Basilica of the Holy Child known as Santo Niño Church. It is one of the oldest Roman Catholic Church in the country, which was built on the spot where the image of the Santo Niño de Cebu was found in 1565 by Spanish explorers led by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi.

                                                                       Magellan’s Cross


Near Sto Niño Church, you can find another historical spot wherein Magellan’s Cross is housed. When Ferdinand Magellan arrived in Sugbu, he planted the Christian cross together with Portuguese and Spanish explorers to celebrate the Roman Catholic baptism of Rajah Humabon.

                                                               Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral


Another Catholic church that you should not miss while you are in Cebu City is the Metropolitan Cathedral also known as the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Most Holy Name of Jesus and St. Vitalis. It is the ecclesiastical seat of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cebu. It is near Fort Sand Pedro and Sto Niño Church.

                                                                          The Taoist Temple


If you are looking for a more peaceful and solemn place, you can visit the Taoist temple located in Beverly Hills Subdivision. It is one of the most popular tourist spots in Cebu city and is the center of worship for Taoism. Tourists need to take many steps to reach the temple.

         SM City Cebu


Do not worry if you want to go out shopping because you can do this at SM City Cebu. It is the largest mall in Cebu and fourth largest in the Philippines next to SM Megamall, SM City North EDSA and SM Mall of Asia. It has a wide selection of stores, boutiques, restaurants, fast food chains, wellness centers, and cinemas. You can also try the ultimate movie experience with IMAX.

                                                                              Ayala Center


Aside from SM City Cebu, there is another great mall where you can shop and dine. Ayala Center is located in Cebu Business Park. This is a perfect place for dining, beverage trip or just hanging out for a great Friday and weekend nights.

More than the idea of Information Technology and Communication hub, Cebu IT Park is also a major lifestyle and recreation destination in Cebu City. The park has a great selection of restaurants, cafes, bars, wellness centers and retail stores. If you want to experience the nightlife in Cebu, never miss to visit this park.
